Frequently asked questions
FAQs for blog readers and commenters
Why is TypeKey now part of TypePad?
We have recently launched new TypePad features, TypePad profiles and TypePad Connect. By making TypeKey part of TypePad, we're delivering a simpler sign-in experience, and a more rewarding interaction for blog readers and commenters. And if you’re a blogger who used TypeKey, your blog is now connected to the millions of users who make up the TypePad network, giving you access to a larger community of blog readers.
I already have a TypeKey account. Do I need to register for a new TypePad account?
No, your TypeKey account has been automatically transitioned to a TypePad account. Use your TypeKey username and password to sign in to manage your profile at profile.typepad.com, or to sign in to any blog where TypePad, TypeKey or OpenID is accepted.
Do I have to pay for a TypePad account to have a TypePad profile?
No. A TypePad account is free to everyone, and includes a profile that you can personalize by choosing your profile URL, uploading a photo, listing your blogs, and linking to your other online accounts. You will only be asked to pay if you upgrade and add a TypePad blog to your account.
Can I still comment on blogs that are asking for me to sign in via TypeKey?
Yes! Just sign in with the same username and password you’ve always used. If you don’t have an account, get one. It’s free.
How is my new TypePad profile different from my old TypeKey profile?
All of the information from your old TypeKey profile has been migrated to your new TypePad profile. Additionally your new profile now hooks you into the TypePad network, and will display the comments that you leave on blogs and websites that use TypePad Connect, our free commenting service. And we’re busy working on more great features for TypePad profiles.
Can I customize my profile?
Of course! Just sign in and personalize your profile by uploading a picture, linking to your blogs, listing your other online accounts, and updating your bio.
What happens if people visit my old TypeKey profile?
If you set up a profile on TypeKey, we’ll automatically send users who visit that page to your new TypePad profile. We’ve also reserved your profile URL, so that if your TypeKey profile was profile.typekey.com/melodynelson , your TypePad profile will be profile.typepad.com/melodynelson.
I’m having trouble with my TypePad profile. How do I get technical support?
We want to help. Fill out our brief contact form and our customer care team will get you back on track.
Where can I learn more about my TypePad profile and TypePad Connect?

Frequently asked questions for bloggers and site owners
My commenters sign in via TypeKey today. Will that continue to work?
Yes. Your readers and commenters can continue to sign in the same way they did before. You don't have to change a thing on your site -- all of the existing links will continue to work. The only change will be that your commenters will have new, better looking profiles with additional features.
Where do I manage my TypeKey-enabled sites, and get my TypeKey API key?
Simply sign in to your TypePad profile account, and click on the "Account" link in the upper right-hand corner, then click on "TypeKey API."
Will TypePad continue to support the TypeKey API?
Yes. You can learn more about the TypeKey API in our Knowledge Base. You can now access your TypeKey API token through the dashboard used to manage your comments with TypePad Connect and edit your profile. Sign in, click on "Account" in the top navigation bar, and click on the TypeKey API link.
I am a Movable Type customer, and used to use TypeKey to sign in to my movabletype.com account. Where do I do that now?
Simply visit movabletype.com and click on the "Customer Sign In" link in the upper right-hand corner. Even though it's now TypePad, you can still use your TypeKey username and password to sign in.
